Description

This course provides students with foundational knowledge in audiology and of the role of the audiologist in the diagnosis and management of hearing and balance disorders, as well as a thorough understanding of how to develop and implement aural rehabilitation plans for children and adults and their family members. Skills acquired include competence in hearing screening audiometry and the interpretation of basic audiometric data in paediatric and adult audiology.

Learning Outcomes

Upon passing this course, I will:

1. Describe audiologic assessment procedures for adults and children.

2. Describe audiologic assessment outcomes, and management options.

3. Apply concepts relating to Deaf culture to the NZ context.

Exams that fall during this period are timetabled centrally and your lectures are not able to adjust the date, time or location. Central timetabling will provide you with that information.

Tests: You will sit 2 tests given in an online format via Learn. You will have 60 minutes to complete each test. If you have a testing accommodation (Learning Support Plan) that you would like to implement, please contact the Course Coordinator at least 1 week prior to the test date.

Reaction Paper:
You will watch the documentary film “Sound and Fury” and write a reaction paper. After watching the film, submit a 1,000-word (+/- 25 words) paper in MS Word format to the course AKO/Learn site by 10 pm on the due date. More information about this assignment and a grading rubric are provided on the course AKO/Learn site.
