Challenges and institutional responses to global environmental problems, including global warming.
This course will introduce students to, and focus on, the international law which protects the marine environment. Students will become familiar with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as well as selected regional instruments for marine environmental protection. Particular attention will be paid to the modern principles and concepts of ocean management. Issues for analysis and discussion include: vessel source pollution, dumping at sea, fisheries management, the conservation of marine biodiversity and whaling.”
