Management, analysis and application of secure e-Business systems including security policy and network management.
In INFO333 the student is introduced to the design, management and security implications of E-Business systems that are strongly linked to an organisation’s strategic direction. INFO333 extends concepts taught in earlier ACIS and COSC courses, particularly INFO233. This course and its companion course COSC 332 (devoted to network and business systems security) form an important basis for postgraduate work in the area of computer and network security. The security part of INFO333 complements the more technical aspects of network security covered in COSC332. Students with a strong interest in applied networking and security are recommended to do INFO333, COSC 332 and COSC 331 from the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
Students credited with INFO 333 will:1. Be able to understand the E Business environment and the managerial and technological processes and risks associated with doing business in that environment.2. Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of an E Business in light of specific metrics, valuations, and capital and technological infrastructures.3. Be able to understand and evaluate emerging technologies and their applications in the context of managerial / technological processes and risks.4. Understand the key issues relating to security and management of E-Business in order to design secure and resilient systems for business use.5. Have learned principles of the main technologies used to secure and manage networks in business. In particular, students will understand the key security threats to E-Business operated across untrusted networks such as the Internet. They will understand important concepts such as threats, vulnerabilities, assets, and security policies and technologies such as firewalls, encryption, authentication and other mechanisms fundamental to secure and well managed network infrastructure.
