Description

A study of the main principles of law affecting amateur and professional sporting activity. This course is offered in alternate years.

The law is now an integral part of sport. This course explores the application of numerous legal principles in a specialist environment, the uniqueness of which invites innovating and interesting legal arrangements. It is hoped that by the end of the course, students have a working knowledge of legal problems associated with sport. Class discussion is encouraged.

The lectures will be recorded.

While there are numerous “sports law” New Zealand cases, they remain uncategorised. I have therefore assembled relevant New Zealand cases according to the topics. The names of these relevant cases, together with the names of relevant overseas cases, will be posted on LEARN. You are expected to download these cases yourselves. They are a valuable resource in your future legal careers.

How to enrol in your summer school course?

To apply successfully you must complete two requirements no later than 31 October:

1. Submit a 2025 change of enrolment via MyUC, and
2. Complete this form: https://forms.office.com/r/fTP7N3vYUM

These two requirements are strictly applied and may differ from instructions published elsewhere.
