Description

Advanced Research Skills

This is the preliminary Honours course that must be undertaken as a pre-requisite to entry to LAWS420 and LAWS430.  It is offered to entry Honours students and involves a series of skills seminars provided by academic and Library staff.  Topics covered include research methodology, advanced writing and study skills, and oral presentation skills.  The course is taught primarily in small groups, and includes self-directed learning.

Learning Outcomes

  • The objectives for Laws 410 are for students to be able to demonstrate that they have:
  •  Advanced skills in written analysis and critique of legal topics:
  •  Advanced oral presentation skills:
  •  Advanced skills in information literacy.

The assessment may consist of three items of: a terms requirement, a research proposal and a research report, all of which will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. You must pass all items of assessment in order to pass the course.

The assessment will be confirmed in the first week of lectures.
