Contemporary leaders need competencies and mindsets for shaping organisational cultures that maximise ability, and are agile and highly responsive in order to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and create new value. This requires fostering high engagement, promoting shared learning and innovation, and leveraging digital technology. The course covers the leadership perspectives required to achieve these dynamic factors, complemented by activities for personal growth as leaders. Experiential-based activities, coaching and feedback, and personal reflection will promote students' leadership development and self-awareness. The course promotes skills in critical thinking, self-awareness, mindfulness, interpersonal dynamics, and practising how to be reflective leaders. This course will be delivered in an ongoing series of activities across the duration of the MBA programme. The second year has a more individual focus, implementing insights in work settings with input to foster leadership development and personal growth.
Good leadership is becoming increasingly important in a rapidly changing and complex environment. A new type of leader is needed, a person who can bring people together and address contemporary challenges. The ‘heroic leader’ model of the 1980s and 1990s is gone. It is replaced by a new breed of authentic leaders who know themselves, and are confident in drawing on their strengths to create their own personalised style of leading. These leaders are resilient and adaptable. They create people-centric environments where smart, agile groups can work together to learn and innovate.This requires new skills, new mindsets, and an ability to build a shared sense of purpose in teams and organisations. The same core challenges are confronting almost all industries and sectors. These new leaders have the competency to address those challenges, fostering discovery, partnership and collaboration.This course allows participants to embark on a journey of learning about themselves, and the demands of the new context of leadership. An initial foundation of traditional and contemporary leadership models allows participants to identify elements most relevant to them. Building from positive psychology, participants engage in classes and workshops where they learn to identify their strengths and create their own authentic, personal style of leadership. This weaves together the attributes and processes needed for creating personal agility and resilience, along with organisational attributes that foster innovation and rapid adaptation. To provide sufficient time for ongoing reflection, implementation and personal development, the course is spread across all three terms.
