This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the increasing importance of diversity in organisations. We study a range of theories and focus on how to apply those theories to real-world situations.
This course emphasises the development of the skills and knowledge required for successful managerial performance in diverse organisations. It focuses on such areas as developing self-awareness, creative problem-solving, supportive communication, the use of power and influence, motivation techniques, and managing conflict.A note on teaching methods: MGMT304 is active and interactive and requires in-person engagement. During lecture times we will doing activities, simulations, group discussions, and other exercises to teach you about management skills and how to apply theory to real-life situations.
The objectives of the course are:1. Demonstrate applicable knowledge of the common skills needed for managerial effectiveness.2. Understand the dynamics of human behaviour so as to increase your ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.3. Be more aware of your values, behaviours and perceptions to understand how they influence your interpersonal behaviour and organisational practice.
