This course introduces students to concepts of Matauranga Maori by examining historical and contemporary instances of Maori innovation. Maori frameworks are introduced which allow students to redefine and re-describe Western theories of being within indigenous methodologies. - Treaty of Waitangi - historical and potential frames of matauranga - Matauranga Maori as the origins and framework of futures thinking - Purakau as placemakers for contemporary and future thinkers and innovators This course will introduce students to Te Korekoreka, an Indigenous design process, as an example of applying matauranga Maori to contemporary innovation.
