Teaching of the Course

Self-reliance, motivation and initiative are emphasised at every stage in the creative process.  The work that is intended to be undertaken during the course of the year should be discussed with, and agreed upon by the student's supervisor of studies at the beginning of the year.

Learning Outcomes

The outcome of this course is to have developed and refined the necessary technical and creative skills to create successful musical compositions and/or sonic works of art.

Portfolio 11 Oct 2013 100% The folio should consist of original and completed works.


Assessment is based on how well the aims of the course have been fulfilled.

The folio should consist of original and completed works.  Scores should be properly bound and presented in permanent form.  Correctly documented audio-recordings, photographs and/or videotape of the principal works should be included.  Additional notes or short commentaries may be included.

Students are expected to participate in all composition workshops (Monday 1-2pm), and to have their works performed there.  An 80% attendance in composer workshops is required to pass the course.

Students are also expected to have at least one public performance of a current work this year.

Students are expected to attend relevant or recommended lunchtime recitals, concerts and lectures by visiting composers even if they occuir outside the composition workshop times.
