Individual Performance Teachers are assigned to each student.
Assessment is based on two public performance recitals/concerts/gigs, each examined by an external examiner and moderated by a member of the School of Music staff. The teacher will normally be present at the examination and the post-performance discussion, but will not take part in deciding the grade. The end-of-year examiner will be subject to approval via the Examinations Office.Examination 1: Mid-year recital (scheduled between 6 and 16 June) of up to 45 minutes duration that includes one major work and also demonstrates a range of styles appropriate for the instrument/voice.Examination 2: Full recital programme (scheduled between 24 October and 3 November) of up to 50 minutes duration of material different from the mid-year recital, which includes one major work and also demonstrates a range of styles appropriate for the instrument/voice.PLEASE NOTE:1. Music performance courses are not eligible for aegrotat consideration.2. Private video recordings of examination recitals will not be permitted.
The following shows how to translate grades to numerical scores:A+ 90–100; A 85–89; A- 80–84; B+ 75–79; B 70–74; B- 65–69; C+ 60–64; C 55–59; C- 50–54; D 40–49; E 0–39In a course at 100- or 200-level examiners may grant restricted credit (R) which will be equivalent to a pass for all purposes except as a prerequisite.
