Students will be introduced to developing technical competence in, and broad operational of, theoretical knowledge within the specialised studio discipline. Projects relating to the conventions and techniques of Photography practice, participation in group meetings, critiques, reading groups and critical reflections, documentation of all work.
Students will learn:A broad understanding of the methodologies and technologies that define the medium of photography.A broad understanding of the importance of in-depth study towards developing a critically engaged practice.How to interpret primary information for the purposes of completing project-based work and critical reflection assignments.How to develop practice-based projects within the context of a defined brief.A basic understanding of precedents - both historical and contemporary - for photographers operating within the fine arts and documentary paradigm.A basic understanding of the ethics of photographic representation and consent.
FINA103, orby permission of the Head of the School of Fine Arts on the basis of at least 120 points from another degree, a collection of works and an interview (application information may be obtained from the Head of School). Entry to this course is limited.
