Description

The goal of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop their digital design, 3D modelling, and prototyping skills. Students will be introduced to multiple methods for digital creation, including production of prototypes, technical drawings, and visual renderings for concept presentation. Students will experience design software and design techniques used in industry, giving insight into the digital design processes they may employ in their future career.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students will be able to:

1. Critically analyse the various digital modelling approaches available to industrial designers and select appropriate software for the development of digital designs for a specified context.
2. Use industry-standard techniques to manage digital design data in an organised, professional manner.
3. Plan for, and employ appropriate modelling techniques for the communication and development of designs using parametric fully-associative digital design software.
4. Use industry-standard computer-aided design packages for the development and communication of detailed product design drawings for a manufacturing partner.
5. Design, program and facilitate rapid prototyping techniques for physical design and detail exploration.
6. Select, assemble and test basic components to facilitate functional design outcomes.
7. Display designs and design development through rendered visualisations using industry-standard rendering software.
