Year 1 Practicum
The course objective is to provide the opportunity for students to apply the scienceand practice of clinical psychology in the context of practicum placements. Thefocus for the year 1 practicum is on psychological assessment, with students beinggiven the opportunity to observe and participate in assessment interviews,psychometric assessments and report writing.Students will complete two 8-week placements of one day per week in thecommunity with a practicing clinical psychologist. The placements in the communityoccur in Terms 2 – 4. Students are also expected to complete a practicumplacement within the Clinical Training and Research Centre, Department ofPsychology.
By the end of the course, students should be able to critically plan and conduct an assessment, and write a psychological report in supervised clinical work to the satisfaction of both the field supervisors and the clinical staff. Students are expected to pass both practical placements.
