Description

Year 1 Practicum

The course objective is to provide the opportunity for students to apply the science
and practice of clinical psychology in the context of practicum placements. The
focus for the year 1 practicum is on psychological assessment, with students being
given the opportunity to observe and participate in assessment interviews,
psychometric assessments and report writing.

Students will complete two 8-week placements of one day per week in the
community with a practicing clinical psychologist. The placements in the community
occur in Terms 2 – 4. Students are also expected to complete a practicum
placement within the Clinical Training and Research Centre, Department of
Psychology.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to critically plan and conduct an assessment, and write a psychological report in supervised clinical work to the satisfaction of both the field supervisors and the clinical staff.  Students are expected to pass both practical placements.
