Description

Year 2 Practicum

The course objective is to provide the opportunity for students to apply the science
and practice of clinical psychology in the context of practicum placements. The
focus for the year 2 practicum is on students gaining further experience with
psychological assessment, and gaining some experience with psychological
intervention/therapy, with students being given the opportunity to observe and
participate in intervention/therapy.

Students will participate in two 12-week practicum placements in the community of
two days per week. The placements in the community occur Terms 1 – 4. Students
are also expected to complete a practicum at the Clinical Training and Research
Centre, Department of Psychology.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to critically integrate assessment
and treatment strategies in supervised clinical work to the satisfaction of both the
field supervisors and the clinical staff. Students are expected to pass both practical
placements.

Prerequisites

Subject to approval of the Head of Department.
