This course introduces students to a range of methods of sociological inquiry. These include both quantitatve and qualitative research methods with a focus on life stories and survey research. The course offers students the opportunity to gain skills as social researchers. These include experience in research ethics, interviewing, analysis and survey design. By the end of the course students will have an understanding of the theoretical, practical and ethical considerations in social research. It is strongly recommended that students majoring in sociology take this course.
45 points of 200 level SOCI or 30 points of 200 level SOCI with a B average or better; alternatively students with at least a B average in 60 points in 200 level courses in related subjects may be admitted to a 300 level SOCI course. RP: SOCI201/301/393
