An introductory language course for students with no previous knowledge of Spanish.
This course is a first half year introduction to Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. The paper does not require any knowledge of Spanish. Students learn the language by doing a great variety of activities that are derived from the classical four skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading). Some of the contextualized tasks include working with interactive CD-ROMs in the laboratory, listening to authentic native speakers, watching videos, writing compositions related to the cultural topic of the week, etc.. As part of their regular assignments students will have to submit compositions, homework, take quizzes, do oral and written tests and take the final mid-year exam. At the end of this paper students will be able to communicate basic information in Spanish in a wide variety of situations.
Availability of streams may depend on enrolment numbers. One additional tutorial hour to be allocated in the first week of term.
