Description

Review of the basic features of Spanish that leads into an intensified examination of more complex structures for both conversational and written Spanish, including a wide range of verb structures.

SPAN201 is a continuing Spanish course that assumes prior knowledge with Spanish at the second semester (SPAN102) level.  This course will build on the skills learned in the first-year Spanish by presenting an integrated skills approach to intermediate Spanish that develops both receptive and productive skills simultaneously.  Consequently, the aim of the course is to continue to increase the student’s ability in reading, writing, speaking and listening to the Spanish language, as well as learning about the culture of the many countries where Spanish is spoken.

Course Objectives

1. review and broaden the knowledge of grammar obtained in first-year Spanish;

2. help students acquire language proficiency through conversational practice and oral comprehension exercises;

3. write for communicative purposes and for developing greater precision in grammar and in the use of vocabulary;

4. develop reading skills through assigned readings;

5. offer students an opportunity to acquire communicative skills while developing an awareness and appreciation of Hispanic cultures.
