SPAN201 is a continuing Spanish course that assumes prior knowledge of Spanish at the second semester (SPAN102) level. This course will build on your existing language skills by reviewing the basic features of Spanish and leading into an intensified examination of more complex structures for both conversational and written Spanish, including a wide range of verb structures. This course has been designed to present an integrated skills approach to intermediate Spanish that develops both receptive and productive skills simultaneously.
The main objectives of SPAN201 are to:broaden the knowledge of grammar obtained in first-year Spanish.help students acquire language proficiency through conversational practice andlistening/oral comprehension exercises.write for communicative purposes and for developing greater precision in grammar and in the use of vocabulary. develop reading skills through assigned readings.examine cultural beliefs and values of the Hispanic world, which in turn students will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for cultures other than their own, including the nature of biculturalism in Aotearoa New Zealand.be able to comprehend the influence of global conditions on Spain and Latin America and be competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts.develop specific linguistic skills in Spanish that will enhance students’ opportunities for a successful career.
SPAN102 or a placement test. Note: The minimum language ability required for this course corresponds approximately to Year 12/13 Spanish.
