Description

The course will examine how to gain a competitive edge through the application of sport science. It will consider aspects in relation to a range of disciplines including, but not limited to, biomechanics, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, sport psychology, sport nutrition, performance analysis and motor learning. The course will be set in the context of sports science in a contemporary bicultural Aotearoa New Zealand.

Assessment

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Assignment: Online assessment module 31 Mar 2023 20% Based on LO 4 and 5. The students are required to complete the online module on LEARN to demonstrate their understanding of the knowledge and norms of the Maori society, the Treaty of Waitangi, and Aotearoa New Zealand's bicultural history as it relates to sport & exercise. Although from a personal perspective growth in reflection should be demonstrated through reference to relevant literature.
Systematic literature review 4500 words 31 May 2023 40% Based on LO 1, 2 and 3. This assignment will require students to select a current topic in sports & exercise science and complete a systematic literature review on that topic.
Research & innovation presentations 40% Based on LO 1, 2 and 3. This assignment will be an oral presentation based on the outcome of their Systematic Literature Review assessment. The students are required to present the prospects of their literature review and how they will innovate on that topic. It will be a 30-minute seminar presented to the class during the last 3 weeks of the 1st semester.
