Description

This compulsory course will begin to prepare initial teacher education early childhood students to become competent bicultural and intercultural teachers of Aotearoa New Zealand.

*Please note this course is only available to initial teacher education students. To enrol in this course you need to be accepted and enrolled in one of our Initial Teacher Education programmes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse the complex influences that personal, social, historical, political and cultural factors may have on teachers, learners, families, whānau and children
  • Explain how cultural inequalities are constituted in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Examine contemporary research on teaching strategies and approaches that promote learning cultures that effectively engage culturally diverse learners
  • Develop effective and respectful communication skills for promoting inclusive teaching practices for families and whānau with young children.

Timetable Note

ON-SITE INTENSIVE

Students enrolled in TEDU105-23YC2(D) are required to attend a compulsory face-to-face On-site Intensive in Christchurch.

Any costs, including travel, accommodation, childcare etc, associated with attendance at the On-site Intensive are met by the student
