Description

Suited for Maori and non-Maori, performance competent and non-experienced learners, language and non-language students, this introductory course explores the mythological origins of Maori performing arts, the form, style and performance of moteatea (traditional song and poetry), waiata-a-ringa (action songs), poi and haka, the renaissance of kapa haka and its place in Maori culture and society.

Prerequisites

Any 18 points in 100-level courses in Aotahi: School of Maori and Indigenous Studies or 36 points in 100-level courses in Arts, Education, Fine Arts, Music and Social Work, or
by permission of the Head of School.
