Introductory statistics with specific examples for biologists. This course is required for all students in BIOL.
The overall aim of BIOL209 is to introduce you to sampling procedures, experimentaldesign, presentation of results, statistical analyses and interpretation of experimental data, asthey apply to biological research. The biological focus applies both to the choice of relevantmethods and the specific examples discussed. The examples will cover a wide range ofbiology, from biochemistry to ecology, although you should not expect every lecturer toillustrate every topic with an example from your specific area of interest in biology. Note that one goal of the course is to prepare students for undergraduate courses, postgraduateresearch programmes and jobs in research organisations, and this affects our choice of coursecontent and style.
