Students will be introduced to developing technical competence in, and broad operational of, theoretical knowledge within the specialised studio discipline. Projects relating to the conventions and techniques of Graphic Design practice, participation in group meetings, critiques, reading groups and critical reflections, documentation of all work.
Students who pass DESI211 will have a broad understanding of the methodologies and technologies that define the medium of graphic design, including:1. Relevant working software skills (Indesign and Photoshop);2. An understanding of the historical trajectory and formal construction of modern typography;3. 2D compositional expertise;4. Complex typesetting and page layout;5. The ability to negotiate complex (multiple format) textual information and create visual hierarchies;6. Digital image reproduction for print; and7. Have a broad understanding of the importance of ongoing contextual research, as well as how and where to begin accessing it.
