This course is designed to provide current and aspiring educational leaders with a theoretical framework for teachers to reflect on their classroom practice, with particular focus on how data from teaching and learning processes is used to inform practice. Teacher appraisal and the links to teacher development are examined for their effectiveness in improving achievement for all learners. There is a focus on methodology for gathering and interpreting data and action research in the classroom.
Learning Outcomes:Participants who have passed this course will be able to ;1 Devise strategies and critically review opportunities to enhance learning and development of teachers in their own workplace.2 Critically evaluate and justify teacher appraisal and professional development as tools for improving learning and teaching.3 Use research findings on learning to inform the role of the teacher as a leader and manager of learning.4 Critically evaluate the curriculum and teaching practice for meeting the challenges of providing programmes for the diversity of learners.5 Critically analyse assessment practices in light of research on the principles of good assessment.
