Students are required to participate in micro-coaching sessions under the supervision of college staff. This course will take place in a structured primary school sport environment where students will apply coaching principles covered in during Coaching and Learning 1.
This course focuses on the development of technical coaching skills within structured coach observations. These coach/leaner experiences will take place with children up to year 8 in the coaching environment of the supporting organisation.The coaching practicum forms a contextual framework for putting theory into practice. The need to understand the coach/athlete environment by observing, planning and coaching is essential for continued coach development.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:Apply content to structured learning sequences with small groups of athletes.Adapt coaching to meet the needs of learners over a series of sessions.Apply technical coaching strategies specific to the coaching and learning environment.Demonstrate Direct Styles of coaching over a series of coaching sessions.Demonstrate and reflect on professional role of the coach in a primary school setting.
