Description

This course examines the coaching theory and practice of empowerment for coaching. It will explore elements of critical theory and humanism and how they can be applied to coaching.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Critically evaluate and reflect on the concept of ‘humanism’
Conceptualise and critique the meaning of athlete-centred coaching and empowerment in coaching.
Critique the discourse of coach and athlete power relationships.
Analyse and explore athlete success and personal development.
Explore the notion of communities in an athlete centred environment.
Analyse components of athlete centred approach or empowerment.

Prerequisites

EDSP123 and EDSP180 at B grade or better.
