Description

Calculus is the study of rates of change and is crucial to engineering. This course covers the foundations of calculus and algebra needed for further study in engineering mathematics, including algebra, differentiation, integration, trigonometry, and graphing. It will highlight links to applications in engineering and other contexts, alongside fostering the development of mathematical problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for EMTH117, however Level 2 NCEA Mathematics with calculus (or equivalent) is assumed knowledge. You may need to commit more time to the course depending on your mathematical background and skills.

Restrictions

Students who have been credited with any of EMTH118, EMTH119, MATH101, MATH102, MATH103 or MATH199, cannot subsequently be credited with EMTH117.  Concurrent enrolment in EMTH117 and any of EMTH118, MATH101 or MATH102 is not permitted.
