This course aims to bring the student to an advanced intermediate standard in Japanese. At the end of this course students should be able to read and write approximately 750 kanji.
JAPA205 continues on from JAPA 153. Students entering this course will have already learnt hiragana and katakana and approximately 400 kanji, and have a working knowledge of approximately 2,000 words and expressions in Japanese.This course aims to bring the beginner level learners to an advanced intermediate standard in four skills (i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing) in Japanese. Also, it aims at enhancing their understanding of Japan and its culture.
By the end of this course students will have mastered an additional 350-400 kanji, different speech levels as well as basic written styles, and approximately 1,000 new words and expressions. Students should also now be able to converse on many different topics in Japanese at a more advanced level than basic everyday conversation.
JAPA152 or JAPA153 or equivalent. Direct entry without the prerequisite is through a placement test and approval of the Programme Coordinator.
