Performance work involving weekly individual lessons, performance classes and ensemble training in an approved instrument and the presentation of a public recital.
This course develops further the performance skills on the student's chosen instrument culminating in the presentation of a solo public recital, and develops performance experience through participation in concerts of solo and ensemble music. At this level, students are expected to show evidence of maturing musicianship. There should be clear evidence of an appreciation of a wide range of musical styles, and of a repertoire that covers the main stylistic periods and idioms of the instrument.

All performance students will be expected to take part in School of Music activities as directed by their tutors and to attend as many School of Music concerts as possible.
Assessment is based onPIANO AND STRINGS• Mid-year public lunchtime recital of 45-50 minutes.• A performance before a panel of examiners. This will be 50-60 minutes duration and will normally be completed by 15 November. The programme must be submitted by the candidate for approval by the tutor and course-coordinator not later than the resumption of lectures after the second semester break. WIND INSTRUMENTS• Mid-year assessment (end of July/beginning of August) Students must present a complete concerto selected from standard repertoire in a public performance.• A public recital before a panel of examiners. This will be 50-60 minutes duration. The programme must be submitted by the candidate for approval by the tutor and course coordinator not later than the resumption of lectures after the second semester break. BRASS INSTRUMENTS• Mid-year assessment (end of July/beginning of August) Students must present a complete concerto selected from standard repertoire in a public performance.• A public recital before a panel of examiners. This will be 45 minutes duration. The programme must be submitted by the candidate for approval by the tutor and course coordinator not later than the resumption of lectures after the second semester break.VOICE• Public lunchtime recital (June/July) of 30-40 minutes duration • Full public recital of 40-45 minutes duration before a panel of examiners. Works performed in the mid-year recital may be included. Programme and notes submitted by student in consultation with teacher. PERCUSSION• A mid-year public lunchtime recital of 30 minutes playing time comprising a range of styles and instruments, and a mock audition (mid-year) that includes excerpts from both Timpani and Percussion symphonic repertoire. • Public recital before a panel of examiners of 50-60 minutes duration comprising a range of styles and instruments.
