Performance work involving weekly individual lessons, performance classes and ensemble training in an approved instrument.
This course aims to develop performance skills on the student's chosen instrument, and to develop performance experience through participation in concerts of solo and ensemble music.Lessons: The time of lessons will be by arrangement with the tutor of the instrument. Times of workshops and seminars will be advised.All performance students will be expected to take part in School of Music activities as directed by their tutors and to attend as many School of Music concerts as possible.

.PIANO, STRING AND WIND INSTRUMENTS • Intermediate Test [30%] organised by the tutor (normally June-July) of approximately 20 minutes duration consisting of technical exercises (scales, arpeggios, etc), at least one study and a piece. Orchestral instrumentalists will play orchestral excerpts as an alternative to the piece • End-of-year final examination [70%] consisting of a programme of approximately 25-30 minutes duration.BRASS INSTRUMENTS • Intermediate Test [30%] organised by the tutor (normally June-July) of approximately 20 minutes duration consisting of technical exercises (scales, arpeggios, etc), two studies including one short study from memory and orchestral/band excerpts. • End-of-year final examination [70%] consisting of a programme of approximately 25-30 minutes duration.VOICE • Intermediate Test [30%] organised by the tutor (normally June) 20 minutes duration consisting of technical exercises and scales, three songs (at least one in German). • End-of-year assessment [70%] (Oct/Nov) consisting of four songs (at least one in French). PERCUSSION • Mid-year assessment will be comprised principally of orchestral excerpts and etudes on timpani, orchestral keyboards, snare drum and ancillary percussion. • End-of-year assessment will be comprised of recital material that includes both solo and chamber repertoire on timpani and percussion. (This could include multi-percussion and marimba/vibes pieces.)
