Description

This course allows students to create substantial immersive experiences using techniques such as structured brainstorming, rapid prototyping (fail often, fail early), constructive critiquing, and iteration. Students will create several major works during the course, working in teams, formally presenting their ideas, and working with client constraints. Several technologies will be introduced, such as collaborative project management and tracking tools, code repositories, and presentation software.

Learning Outcomes

  • To apply techniques and methods to designing, prototyping, and evaluating game
    ideas.
  • To be able to design new game ideas to meet external specifications and requirements.
  • To be able to work in a team to critique and iteratively improve game concepts
    through rapid prototyping, constructive critiquing, and testing.
  • Be familiar with the use of a number of industry standard game development tools and
    production processes.
  • Be able to tailor presentations of game designs for the target audience.

Prerequisites

1) one of PROD101, PROD142 or SENG201; and 2) either PROD121 or PROD223

Timetable Note

The tutorials in this course will help students to get a deep understanding of tools and design pipelines commonly used in game development. Student will create art assets and integrate them in a game prototype.

The course includes individual as well as group assessments. Students will work in groups to
design, produce and present immersive experiences. Groups will need to capture their
design artefacts and development contributions and report them regularly. They will also
submit a final report and presentation at the end of their projects. Exact due dates and
times for assessments will be visible on AKO | LEARN.
