Description

The first part of the course introduces essential topics for professional practice within the Psychology Assistant scope of practice and provides you with an opportunity to participate in a wellbeing-focused psychoeducation group. The remainder of the course focuses on integrating and applying the knowledge, skills, and professional values developed across the qualification through scenario- and simulation-based learning. You will consolidate the competencies acquired in your other Psychology Assistant courses, including your emerging skills in assessment, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioural intervention, alongside documentation, group facilitation, reflective and deliberate practice, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Your simulated practice is supported through clinical and cultural supervision and lived experience reflective practice. To support your transition into the PSYC494 practicum, you will connect with your placement organisation and complete two introductory visits to orient to service processes, documentation standards, and professional expectations. Towards the end of the semester, you will attend an in-person day to demonstrate your developing competencies through an assessed role play.
