Description

This course is a continuation of SPAN301. Students' linguistic skills will be improved and reinforced through extended readings, written assignments and aural/oral activities in class. Grammar will be taught in a cultural content-based context. By the end of this course, students will have a broader knowledge of Hispanic cultures; students will be able to communicate more effectively (orally and in writing) with native and other competent speakers.

The aim of this second semester course is to give students further advanced proficiency in Spanish language and culture.  Students will be able to gain a deeper cultural knowledge of the Latin American Hispanic countries as well as identify and produce different idiomatic expressions used in a variety of contexts.  In this course there will be a review of all the basic and complex grammatical structures of Spanish in a comparative context.  Students will be motivated to expand this knowledge through regular research activities that will be the basis for further interactive group activities.  Regular work for this course includes oral presentations, compositions, tests and a comprehensive take-home essay in Spanish.  There is no final examination. At the end of this course students will be able to communicate at an advanced level of Spanish. Students will be able to speak about contemporary Latin American socio-cultural topics and they will be able to start doing individual research work in Spanish and be prepared to expand their literary knowledge.
