Description

Experimental biochemistry, synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry with an emphasis on preparation, separation, isolation, and characterisation techniques that are used in chemistry and biochemistry. Safety and library elements will be integrated into the course, biochemistry and chemistry options will be available.

This laboratory course has been designed to introduce you to the practical skills necessary
to carry out the synthesis and characterisation of chemical compounds. To aid you in your
experiments, several tutorials have been organised to provide the necessary theoretical
background.

This course will:

• Introduce the techniques required in a synthetic laboratory;
• Provide you with a degree of competency in synthetic chemistry;
• Provide practice in the use of spectroscopy to determine the structure of compounds;
• Provide an introduction to the chemical literature and the Library.
