Description

Public diplomacy relates to efforts by state and non-state actors to influence public opinion in other countries. With the growth of soft power and new media and information technologies, public diplomacy is considered to be of growing importance in international relations. This course reviews the emerging theoretical literature on public diplomacy and a number of case studies on how different states and multilateral organisations have used public diplomacy in recent years to improve their international image.

Essay 30% Research essay (lit review and expert opinion review). 2500 words excluding bibliography. DEADLINE for written case report: by August 31, 23:59
Individual Case Study Report 30% Review 5 (five) related academic articles and 3 (three) inputs by the experts who presented in the course in Terms 1-2.The review is due on Week 9 of the course, by October 3, 23:59. The 3 points due Week 10, by Oct 7, 23.59
Group Project 30% Team Research Project and Written Co-authored Report (30%) "New Zealand's Cultural Diplomacy. Design of a PD event in the context of cultural diplomacy" Team Presentation (10%) + Written Report (20%)
