Assessment 1 (50%) is evaluating, critiquing, and improving a 15-minute demo lesson taught by a qualified and experienced ESOL teacher. Students are first required to write a reflective report of any chosen demo lesson and then design a new lesson plan that aligns with their teaching context or any hypothesised contexts provided by the course, with reference to relevant literature, which will lead to more effective teaching. Due in Week 4. 2. Assignment 2 (50%) is a recorded online lesson demo delivered to a hypothesised learner or learner group and a short essay justifying the design of the lesson by drawing on relevant literature. Students need to develop a new lesson plan different from Assignment 1. The lesson demo will be recorded using an online teaching application. The essential components of the assignments consist of 1) describing the background of the learner, 2) describing the learning objectives of the lesson, (3) presenting moves and steps of the lesson, 4) discussing the selection of materials and the design of assessment tasks, and (5) justifying a chosen method or theory underpinning the design of activities. Due in Week 8.
