Description

This course offers an in-depth exploration of New Zealand's unique forest ecosystems, including an examination of vegetation history and exploration of the patterns and processes that influence natural forest composition. Additionally, students will gain confidence in the identification of key invertebrate classes and insect orders prevalent in New Zealand forests, methods for their collection/monitoring, and an understanding of the ecological roles of invertebrates within forest systems. The course also covers the principles of invasion ecology, highlighting the impacts of invasive species and the crucial role of the biosecurity system in preserving both natural and productive ecosystems.
